The match-winner in the second Test in Visakhapatnam, Jasprit Bumrah might be rested for the third Test of the IND vs ENG Test Series. National selectors in consultation with team management are thinking of resting Jasprit Bumrah for the Rajkot Test so that he can return for the final two Tests fresh & rejuvenated. Bumrah was also declared as the ‘Player of the Match’ for the second Test for returning with figures of 9-91.
After bowling 32 overs across four intense days during the second Test, Bumrah bowled deliveries of perfect lengths & lines. In their previous Test in Hyderabad where India suffered a major defeat, it was Bumrah who bowled approximately 25 overs. Thus looking at the amount of work Bumrah has been involved in the last few days, selectors decided to give some well-deserved rest.
Siraj to lead pace attack in absence of Jasprit Bumrah
On the other hand, Mohammed Siraj who was given a break in the second Test will be recalled by the selectors for the third Test. In Bumrah’s absence, Siraj will lead the attack in the third game before rejoining forces with Bumrah for the final two Tests of the series. The team selection is anticipated to be finalized on Tuesday (February 6).
Managing the workload for the two fast bowlers has become a critical thing in Indian cricket, looking at the amount of cricket they have been playing. India’s veteran pacer, Mohammed Shami who is a proven match-winner for the team is not ready for an International Comeback. As per the reports, Shami was sent to London for treatment of his ankle & his recovery period is longer than expected.
As reported by a leading media portal, Jadeja is unlikely to be fully fit for the home Test in Rajkot. He required additional time to attain full fitness after encountering a hamstring injury in the first Test. While it might not be surprising if he misses the entire series the management will not want to rush him after recovering from the injury.
Virat Kohli might miss the entire IND vs ENG Test Series
The return of Virat Kohli remains uncertain as the star batter is abroad due to a family emergency. Asked about his availability, coach Rahul Dravid said that the team management would connect with Kohli to know about his availability for the rest of the Test series. Meanwhile, Kohli’s good friend De Villiers recently confirmed that Kohli is expecting his second child & thus is spending time with his family.
“I can confirm that he is in good health. Currently, he is taking some time off with his family, which is why he won’t be available for the first two Test matches. I won’t disclose any further details. I am looking forward to his return,” the South African mentioned.
However, one good news for the Indian squad is the possible return of KL Rahul in the third Test which will begin from February 15.
