ICC recently released the latest ODI Rankings & Shubamn Gill neared the top spot in the ODI Rankings for batters as he is just six points short of Pakistan captain Babar Azam who is occupying the top spot on the List. Shubam Gill who missed the first couple of fixtures in the ODI World Cup due to dengue fever is at 823 points while Babr Azam’s points have slipped to 829 in spite of scoring 74 in the loss to Afghanistan earlier this week.
Babar’s rating points have slipped as he has scored just 157 runs from five innings at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, with his most recent effort being a fighting 74 against Afghanistan in Chennai. Gill has scored 95 runs from the last three fixtures with the right-hander improving to 823 rating points on the back of his impressive knock of 53 against Bangladesh in Pune.
De Kock too marches toward the top spot in the ICC ODI Rankings for Batters
Another batter who is nearing Babar Azam’s run tally is none other than South African batter Quinton de Kock who is placed at the third spot on the rankings for ODI batters following a superb start to the World Cup 2023 that has seen him scoring three tons. His Proteas teammate Heinrich Klaasem moved up by seven places to fourth position to reach career-best rankings. While experienced Virar Kohli moved up by three pots & David Warner moved up by two spots to occupy the fifth spot on the Rankings after some good performances for India.
India’s Captain, Rohit Sharma is the second-highest run-scorer for India in the ODI World Cup 2023 and rose to eighth position on the list. Consistent middle-order performer Daryl Mitchell is another player on the rise, with the New Zealander jumping 16 places to 13th overall after 268 runs from four hits at the World Cup.
Mohammed Siraj, Keshav moves up on the ICC ODI Rankings for bowlers
In the ICC ODI Rankings for bowlers, Australia’s seam option Hazlewood maintains a narrow lead at the top of the ODI bowler rankings, but some top bowlers of the ODI World Cup 2023 are marching fast to overtake him at the No. 1 spot. His major competitor is Mohammed Siraj who is placed in the second spot after scalping six wickets in five matches at the ODI World Cup 2023.
The other notable gainee in the ICC ODI World Cup bowlers Rankings is spinner Keshav Maharaj who rose to two places to acquire third spot & a career-high ranking following his seven wickets win in the ODI World Cup 2203 so far. On the other hand, Afghanistan veteran Mohammad Nabi (up four places to sixth) and Australia tweaker Adam Zampa (up four places to seventh) also make ground inside the top 10.
Bangladesh captain Shakib-Al-Hasan remains in front of the ODI Rankings for all-rounders with South Africa beanpole Marco Jansen the biggest mover with the in-form No.7 jumping 23 places on this list to share 11th place alongside Scotland’s Michael Leask.
