ICC Announces Fixtures for 2024 Women’s T20 WC Qualifier

The International Cricket Council (ICC) officially announced the fixtures of the ICC T20 Women’s WC Qualifier 2024 on Thursday. The tournament is scheduled to take place from 25th April to 7th May 2024. Before that, warm-up fixtures will take place on 21 and 23rd April 2024.

All the matches of the World Cup qualifiers will take place in two stadiums, namely Zayed Cricket Stadium and Tolerance Oval, with the final scheduled for 7 May.

The teams that take part in the competition are Scotland, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Uganda, the United States of America (USA), Ireland, Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Vanuatu, and Zimbabwe.

The tournament features eight teams from the five ICC Global Development Regions, while Ireland and Sri Lanka also make the top ten as they failed to secure a position in the top six of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 in South Africa.

ICC Women’s T20 WC Qualifier Groups

The ten teams will be divided into two groups of five teams each. Scotland, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Uganda, and the United States of America (USA) feature in Group A, while Ireland, Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Vanuatu and Zimbabwe make up Group B.

The top two teams from both groups will reach the semi-finals and the winners of the semi-finals will lock horns with each other in the final. The two finalists will get a ticket to the ICC Women’s World Cup 2024, which is scheduled to take place later this year in Bangladesh.

The first day of the qualifiers sees Sri Lanka take on Thailand and Scotland take on Uganda at Tolerance Oval. Ireland will face UAE, while Zimbabwe will take on Vanuatu at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium. The final of the tournament will take place at Zayed Cricket Stadium on 7th May 2024.

With regards to the announcement of the fixtures, here’s what ICC Head of Events, Chris Tetley said:

“We are looking forward to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier as it is going to be a highly competitive and exciting event with 10 teams battling it out for two World Cup spots in Bangladesh later this year.”

“Following the success of last year’s Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa and with more fans engaged with the women’s game than ever before it will be an exciting few months building up to the World Cup. Teams are certain to have a great experience in UAE. We are grateful to the Emirates Cricket Board for their support in staging this event and I’m certain they will prove again what excellent hosts they are.”
