Haris Rauf To Retain His Pakistan Cricket Central Contract After Appealing To Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)
Amid a whirlwind of events unfolding in Pakistan cricket over the past week, including poor player performances, board member dismissals, and former players defending those ousted, another layer of drama emerges as certain players face contract terminations.
Amid this tumultuous atmosphere, sources suggest that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is poised to reassess the status of Haris Rauf’s contract, sparking intrigue within cricketing circles. The decision to revisit Rauf’s contract has drawn attention, particularly after public criticism from Lahore Qalandars’ owner, adding fuel to the already heated discussions surrounding the state of Pakistani cricket.
In a significant move, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has terminated the central contract of a prominent pacer who declined to represent Pakistan in the bilateral series against Australia, which resulted in a 3-0 defeat for the national team.
Haris Rauf Had Opted Out of Test Series Against Australia
Following the controversy surrounding the player’s refusal to represent Pakistan in the bilateral series against Australia, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) opted to wield disciplinary measures by terminating the player from the central contract. This decision, made just two days ahead of the Pakistan Super League, reflects the board’s firm stance on maintaining discipline and commitment to national duties.
However, the timing of the termination coincides with the player’s unfortunate shoulder injury, which has consequently ruled them out of participation in the ongoing tournament.
In a scathing public rebuke, the owner of Lahore Qalandars voiced strong condemnation of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), denouncing their recent actions as ill-timed and humiliating towards the affected player. Expressing deep dissatisfaction, the owner emphasized that such treatment is unprecedented and goes against the principles of fairness and respect. In a statement to the media, he said:
“Rauf’s our premier bowler, our highest wicket-taker after Shaheen Afridi. To publicly humiliate him and issue a press release announcing the termination of his central contract, I have never seen this happen anywhere. I would never treat my employees like that. The employee at least has the right for you to call, email or message them”
Following these public statements, it said that the board might look back at the incident. A source mentioned:
“There are chances that the appeal might be accepted, and his contract restored”
Indeed, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is not alone in its strict approach towards players who fail to prioritize national or domestic cricket duties. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also demonstrated a firm stance on disciplinary matters, as evidenced by the termination of contracts for players like Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan due to non-compliance and disciplinary issues.
