There comes a sigh of relief for Mumbai Indians as their newly appointed skipper can be fit for IPL 2024. As per the reports, Hardik Pandya will miss the T20I series against Afghanistan but will be fit by IPL 2024. Hardik injured his ankle during the World Cup 2023 in India’s fixture against Bangladesh & has been healing since then. Hardik then went on to miss the remaining matches & was also rested for the South Africa series.
As per a report in a leading media portal, Hardik Pandya will not be able to get ft on time for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan. And there are chances that Rohit Sharma could be back in the T20I arena & lead the Indian clan in Hardik’s absence. There are also chances that Rohit Sharma could lead India in the T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies & USA. The Test Captain refused to Comment on his T20I return at the recent press conference in Centurion.
IPL 2024: Are things not okay between Rohit & Hardik?
A lot happened between Pandya, Rohit & Mumbai Indians as the franchisee decided to hand over the leadership duties to Pandya replacing Rohit. Mumbai Indians traded Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans for a huge 12 crores & elevated him as the Captain of MI. The change in captaincy didn’t go well with Rohit Sharma fans who expressed their outrage over social media. Some Mumbai Indians fans burnt the MI jersey while most of the fans unfollowed the franchisee on Instagram. The franchisee lost lakhs of fans within minutes of making the shocking announcement.
Indian team is leaving no stone unturned to prepare for the upcoming t20 World Cup 2024. The three-match T20I series against Afghanistan will act as a preparatory ground for team India. Hardik Pandya is a big player in T20I format & his absence in the playing XI will affect India’s performance in the shortest format of cricket. Hardik sustained an injury during the middle of the ODI World Cup 2023 which forced him to miss the latter stage of the tournament. Mohammed Shami walked in as Hardik Pandya’s replacement in the marquee event.
If Rohit Sharma leads the Indian team in the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan then it will confirm Rohit’s presence in the T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit was in great form during the ODI World Cup 2023 giving the Indian team a perfect start on many occasions. He has also led the Indian team perfectly strategically & was perfect in the execution of plans. If Hardik Pandya returns for the IPL 2024 then he will be back in the race of captain for the T20 World Cup 2024. It will be interesting to see what happens next & who will lead the Indian team in the marquee event which is to be held in West Indies & USA.
