Injuries continue to haunt Gujarat Giants as one more prominent member of the team, Harleen Deol has been ruled out of the remainder of WPL 2024. The Indian batter injured her knee during the clash against UP Warriors and was taken off the field by the team’s physio.
The incident occurred during the first over of the UP Warriorz’ chase against the Giants. He didn’t come out to take the field, after that, and also missed the next two matches. As per the recent development, she has been ruled out of the entire season. Bharti Fulmali is set to replace her.
Harleen Deol’s performance wasn’t up to the mark this season. She could only have 48 runs at an average of 16 in the three matches, striking at 75. Her being ruled out of the entire season is a huge setback for a team, that is already struggling in the tournament.
Injury woes obstruct Gujarat Giants’ progress in WPL 2024
Gujarat Giants didn’t win a single game in their first four encounters. They, recently, picked up their first points after winning against RCB at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Sadly, they have had their fair share of injuries this season.
Their vice-captain, Sneh Rana hasn’t been part of the playing XI for the last two games. She missed the matches due to an undisclosed illness. However, it has been learned that she has recovered well and will be available for the next match against Mumbai Indians on Saturday.
Ahead of the start of the tournament, Gujarat Giants dealt with a couple of major blows. Uncapped fast bowling sensation, Kashvee Gautam, whom the Giants bought by for 2 crores, was ruled out due to an injury. In addition to that, Australia’s Lauren Cheatle had to withdraw because of her cancer treatment.
Giants, though, picked up New Zealand’s Lea Tahuhu as her replacement. For Kashvee Gautam, the franchise roped in Mumbai’s Sayali Sathgare as her replacement. Gujarat Giants won their last game against RCB by 19 runs, courtesy of a match-winning knock of 85 runs in 51 balls from Beth Mooney. Wolvaart supported her brilliantly, scoring 76 off 45.
Gujarat Giants should take confidence from that win and look to continue the winning momentum.
