There is a saying that “records are meant to be broken,” but there are some cases and records that seem almost impossible to break. In the NBA, there have been many phenomenal players who have set impressive records and the numbers are very far away from today’s players, so it is hard to imagine that those records would ever be broken. Let’s have a look at some incredible records made by NBA players that will probably never be broken.
Hakeem Olajuwon – 3,830 Blocks
Olajuwon was the first overall pick in the 1984 draft and he turned out to be an amazing player as well. He became one of the best centers of all time. Hakeem’s blocking ability, in addition to his seven-foot height, was the most incredible thing about him. “The Dream” had brilliant blocking time and because of this, he recorded a total of 3,830 blocks in his career, which is the most in NBA history till now.
Mark Eaton – 3.5 Blocks Per Game
In the entire history of the NBA, only three players have managed to average more than three blocks per game: Hakeem Olajuwon, Manute Bol and Mark Eaton. “Man Mountain” recorded 3,064 blocks, with an average of 3.5 per game. Eaton spent his entire career with Utah Jazz and made this amazing record, which will probably never be broken. Of the current NBA players, Anthony Davis has the highest average with 2.34 blocks per game.
Stephen Curry – 3,117 3-Pointers
Golden State Warriors center Stephen Curry currently has 3,117 three-pointers, but he will continue to add more and finish his career with a more brilliant record, which will be very hard to break. James Harden (2,593) and Damian Lillard (2,143) have a little chance to get close to Curry, but they will have to perform exceptionally. Maybe they could reach 3,000 three-pointers, but it won’t be enough to break Steph’s record.
Wilt Chamberlain – 23,924 Rebounds
Chamberlain was an extraordinary basketball player and always looked superior on the court. He averaged 22.9 rebounds per game during his career and hence he scored a total of 23,924 rebounds. No player has ever come close to this record, and currently the active player with the most rebounds is Dwight Howard (14,627).
Bill Russell – 24.87 Rebounds Per Game
It will be surprising to know that Chamberlain does not hold this record despite having the most rebounds. But it is true that Bill Russell averaged 24.87 rebounds per game, while Wilt averaged 24.46. The player who came closest to Russell and Chamberlain is Wes Unseld, with an average of 14.93 rebounds per game. Among the current active players, Giannis Antetokounmpo is the best, with 12.01 rebounds per game. It is certain that no one will be able to break Russell’s record.
John Stockton – 15,806 Assists
Stockton has the most assists and is followed by Jason Kidd (12,091) and Chris Paul (10,977). The Utah Jazz point guard was arguably the best passer in NBA history. Additionally, Stockton had an incredible partner in the form of Karl Malone, forming one of the deadliest duos in history.
John Stockton 3,265 Steals
Apart from the great ability to pass the ball, Stockton also had the skill to steal the ball. Stock had five straight seasons with 200 steals, and 13 consecutive seasons with over 100 steals. He finished his career as the only player in NBA history with 3,000 assists. An active NBA player with the most steals is Chris Paul with 2,453. This is probably another record of Stockton which will probably never be broken.
LeBron James – 7,631 Playoff Points
James has scored 7,631 playoff points, a number that seems unattainable. He has made it to the playoffs 15 times, and he usually wins and advances, so he has been a part of 266 postseason games. Michael Jordan is second on this list with 5,987 points, and among active players, Kevin Durant is the closest to LeBron with 4,559 points.
LeBron James – 142.60 Value Over Replacement Player
LeBron James is one of those players who has played in the NBA for the longest, and the most impressive thing about him is his consistency. The Lakers star has played 19 seasons at a great level. He has a 142.6 VORP because of his consistency in the game. The player who is closest to “King James” is former player Michael Jordan with 116.05 and among active players, it is Chris Paul with 93.68.
Michal Jordan- 30.1 Points Per Game
The Legend Michael Jordan was a 10-time scoring champion, more than any other player in history. Jordan led the NBA in scoring the most points per game. He retired from basketball to play baseball, but when he returned, MJ won three consecutive scoring titles. He was a scoring machine and averaged 30.1 points per game, a stat that would never be surpassed. Currently, Kevin Durant has the highest average (27.18).
