Dustin Poirier has called out Nate Diaz for UFC 300, so we may see another exciting fight in 2024. Poirier and Diaz were once set to fight each other at UFC 230 in November 2018. Unfortunately, the fight was canceled because Diaz had to pull out due to an injury. “The Stockton Slap” left the UFC after defeating Tony Ferguson at UFC 279. However, after losing his boxing debut to Jake Paul, Diaz has confirmed his intention to return to the MMA promotion.
Poirier publicly named Diaz as his potential opponent
“The Diamond” has now expressed his desire to attend UFC 300 and talked about the possible matchup. The highly anticipated event is scheduled for April 2024, and Poirier is in talks to feature in the historical pay-per-view event. He has publicly named Diaz as a potential opponent for the event, confirming discussions with UFC CEO Dana White regarding his participation at UFC 300.
“The Diamond” took to twitter to call out the former UFC star and tweeted “300”
“Nathaniel?”
While Diaz did not respond to Poirier’s callout, he sent out a tweet of his own, hinting at his return. He posted an “I’ll be back” meme featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger’s line from the iconic film The Terminator.
Before his last fight in the UFC, Diaz faced Leon Edwards at UFC 263 and lost the bout via unanimous decision. However, in the final minute of the fifth round he landed a straight left hand that badly injured “Rocky”. The UFC veteran declared himself the winner of the fight despite losing the other four rounds.
The Irishman is also expected to return in 2024
Conor McGregor is also expected to return against Michael Chandler in 2024 and has expressed interest in a trilogy fight with Nate Diaz and a fourth fight with Poirier. The “Mystic Mac” lost his trilogy bout against Poirier at UFC 264 and has been out of action since then. Dustin Poirier recently stated that he is open to fighting his rival, McGregor, for the fourth time, even though he sees no need to fight him for the fourth time.
