The Detroit Pistons lost their 26th consecutive game on Sunday, tying the longest losing streak in a single season and closing in on the record of 28 overall losses in league history. The Pistons have not won a single game since October 28 and their most recent defeat came against the Brooklyn Nets by 126–115. This tied the Pistons with the 2010–11 Cleveland Cavaliers and 2013–14 Philadelphia 76ers for the most defeats in a season.
Sixers hold the record of most consecutive losses
This 26th consecutive loss is just two losses away from the Sixers’ record of 28 consecutive losses from the end of the 2014–15 season to the beginning of the 2015–16 season. Joel Embiid, who was a part of the 2014–15 Sixers as a rookie, missed the entire season due to a right foot injury, and the team finished with an 18-64 record. They ended their campaign with 10 consecutive defeats.
In that season, Philadelphia began their campaign with 18 consecutive losses, with Embiid sitting out the season due to a foot injury. The Philadelphia 76ers finally broke their losing streak by defeating the LA Lakers 103–91 on December 1, 2015.
Pistons will try to make a comeback in next two games
The Detroit Pistons next two games are against the Brooklyn Nets (Tuesday) and Boston Celtics (Thursday). The team will try to end their losing streak and avoid a lucrative spot in the league’s history. The Detroit Pistons tied one of the worst records in NBA history by losing their 26th consecutive game this season on Saturday, and their players are definitely not liking this. The Pistons were initially in the game in the second half against the Nets until the home team went on a 15-0 run to take a 21-point lead from which the visiting team could not recover.
After the game, Piston players talked about their ongoing phase. The center, Isaiah Stewart, said, “None of us have been through this. It is probably the hardest thing we’ve gone through, especially being the pros.”
On the other hand, point guard Cade Cunningham said, “Everybody wants to win, everybody hates to lose, so it’s tough. We also have to be realistic. Can’t just keep saying the same things over and over again, because we’ll get the next one. There should be a plan of action, so we’re just figuring it out.”
