In a bid to plug holes and bolster their squad for the upcoming IPL 2024, Delhi Capitals went into the IPL 2024 auction with a purse of 28.9 crore. Interestingly, they spent the most on Jharkhand-born wicket-keeper batter, Kumar Kushagra.
After being picked by the franchise, his father revealed that Sourav Ganguly had promised him during Delhi Capitals’ trials that he would pick his son at any cost as he reminded him of MS Dhoni. The Jharkhand wicket-keeper batter might play the role of a back-up wicket-keeper batter to Rishabh Pant.
Besides, the Delhi Capitals team spent 5 crore for Jhye Richardson, who could be a backup for Anrich Nortje in the IPL 2024. The franchise would be happy to buy Tristan Stubbs (50 lakhs) and Shai Hope (75) at their base price.
To bolster their middle order, Delhi Capitals roped in Harry Brook for INR 4 crores. He didn’t have a great season last year and, thus, SRH released him. It will be interesting to see if he can show his mettle for a new franchise in Delhi Capitals.
Uncapped Players Bought by Delhi Capitals
As for the other uncapped Indian players, the franchise has roped in the likes of Ricky Bhui (INR 20 lakhs), Rashikh Salam (INR 20 lakh), and Swastik Chikara (INR 20 lakh). Delhi Capitals’ squad looks pretty sorted, however, they would expect Prithvi Shaw to come with good performances as the Capitals don’t have a good backup for him.
The onus would also be on the likes of David Warner and Mitchell Marsh to give aggressive starts consistently. Rishabh Pant’s availability is also a concern for the team. It is learned that he is likely to be used as an impact player on the side.
Talking about the spin attack, Kuldeep Yadav will have a big role to play. He picked up only 10 wickets in the last season in 14 matches at an average of 36.10.
