UFC will start 2024 with a bang, as Dana White has officially revealed exciting main events for UFC 297, UFC 298, and UFC 299. The president took to his X account and made the announcement regarding the 2024 pay-per-view lineup.
He stated that UFC 297, set for Toronto, Canada, will be headlined by a middleweight championship fight between Sean Strickland and challenger Dricus du Plessis. This will be Strickland’s first title defense since defeating Israel Adesanya to become the new Middleweight champion, while the South African fighter will come after an 8 fight win streak, with his most recent victory coming against Robert Whittaker.
Volkanovski will defend his Featherweight title
The president then announced that featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski will defend his title against Ilia Topuria at UFC 298. It will be interesting to see how the Australian fighter performs, as this will be a quick turnaround after his knockout loss to Islam Makhachev at UFC 294. On the other hand, Ilia Topuria has climbed up the featherweight rankings since returning to 145 pounds last December, as he got back-to-back wins over Bryce Mitchell and Josh Emmett. Volkanovski has successfully defended his Featherweight Championship on five occasions and will look to continue the reign.
Sean and Marlon will clash for the Bantamweight title
Another exciting headliner announced by Dana White was that UFC 299 will witness the bantamweight title fight between Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera. This bout is a rematch of their 2020 clash, in which Vera won by knockout in the first round and handed Sean his first and only defeat of his career.
