Netherlands Spinner Dutt Wrecks Namibia with Record-Breaking Figures in CWC League 2 Clash
Netherlands spinner Aryan Dutt etched his name in the record books with a phenomenal bowling performance against Namibia in their Cricket World Cup League 2 encounter on Monday.
The 20-year-old off-spinner ripped through the Namibian batting order, claiming a career-best 6/34 to set up a comfortable seven-wicket victory for his team.
Dutt’s spell was nothing short of devastating. He started with a bang, taking 5/12 in his first 18 balls, sparking a Namibian collapse that saw them lose their top order in quick succession.
His figures surpassed the previous best for the Netherlands in men’s ODIs, held by Timm van der Gugten (5/24) since 2013.
Dutt’s accuracy and control were exceptional. He exploited the conditions expertly, getting the ball to turn and bounce unpredictably, leaving the Namibian batsmen in disarray.
He dismissed key players like Michael van Lingen, JP Kotze, and Jan Frylinck cheaply, leaving Namibia reeling at 33/4.
The pressure mounted further as the Dutch bowlers kept the pressure on. Gerhard Erasmus briefly threatened a fightback with a quickfire 35, but Dutt returned to claim his fifth wicket, dismissing Zane Green with a sharp catch taken by Noah Croes.
Namibia’s resistance eventually crumbled as they were bundled out for a paltry 123. Dutt finished with the best figures ever recorded by a Dutch bowler in an ICC tournament, eclipsing Asim Khan’s 7/9 against East and Central Africa in 1997.
The Netherlands, in reply, chased down the target with ease. Openers Michael Levitt (57) and Max O’Dowd (28) provided a solid foundation with a 78-run partnership.
Levitt registered his maiden ODI fifty before being dismissed by the only successful Namibian bowler, Gerhard Erasmus (3/23).
Bas de Leede (21*) and skipper Scott Edwards (4*) saw the chase through to completion, securing a comfortable seven-wicket victory for the Dutch.
Dutt’s performance was the highlight of the match, showcasing his talent and potential. He has emerged as a key player for the Netherlands and his record-breaking spell could be a turning point in his career.
