CSK IPL 2024 Squad: The auction of the 2024 edition of IPL was special for every team & six times champions, Chennai Super Kings were no different here. They entered the IPL 2024 auction with a positive mindset & the backing of their ‘Thala’ who is going to be there for the upcoming season of the league as well. Just after lifting their sixth IPL trophy, CSK Captain MS Dhoni said that the easy thing for him would be to say thank you & retire with a trophy in hand. But the tough thing will be to work hard & come back to play another IPL season. So he will choose the tough part & treat his fans by playing for the last time in the IPL 2024.
Having the guidance & support of Thala for one more season, Chennai Super Kings marched into the IPL 2024 Auction with some voids to fill. They had the task of filling the empty place of Ambati Rayudu who took retirement after the IPL 2024 season. Secondly, they wanted to have some power hitters in their lineup & some good bowlers to complete their bowling department. And they began the auction process with the task in hand & clear strategy in mind.
CSK started by going for World Cup-winning team all-rounder Travis Head but after witnessing the pursuit of SRH they decided to take a U-Turn. It was Rachin Ravindra who was backed by CSK’s think tank & they roped his services for a decent 1.8 crores. Ravindra will add that much-needed power to their top order with his ability to tackle with spin & pace efficiently.
CSK played tactically by going for Daryl Mitchell
CSK then went for Shardul Thakur whose services were bought for INR 4 crore. The right-arm fast bowler brings in a lot of experience along with him at a high economy rate. But Thakur is capable of contributing with the bat also making him a reliable option at the lower order. After getting some good picks CSK then set their focus on Kiwi all-rounder Daryl Mitchell & they left no stone unturned to get his services. CSK broke the bank & spent 14 crore to make Mitchell one of the most expensive signings at the IPL 2024 Auction.
Chennai Super Kings then made a smart move by purchasing the services of Sameer Rizvi. Fondly called ‘right-handed Raina’ Rizvi made headlines after displaying spectacular performances in the UPT20 league. In 10 fixtures he amassed 455 runs with a strike rate of 188.8 & an average of 50. In the accelerated round, CSK bought Bangladesh’s star pacer Mustafizur Rahman for INR 2 Crores to strengthen their bowling. The Chennai franchise concluded the IPL 2024 auction by getting young batter Avinash Rao Aravelly for INR 20 lakh.
Overall Chennai Super Kings made smart moves by grabbing the services of Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell & Shardul Thakur strengthening their team’s core. They further embellished their lineup by buying the services of Rizvi & Avinash. CSK squad looks quite potent & all set to clinch their seventh IPL title.
