Just two days before the beginning of India vs England five five-match Test series against England Virat Kohli broke MS Dhoni’s Record. After Kohli opted out of the first two Tests due to personal reasons, the news of him breaking a huge record of Captain MS Dhoni started doing rounds of social media. Kohli broke a record of former India Captain MS Dhoni after he got inducted into the ICC ODI Team Of The Year for 2023. Kohli made it to the team of the year for a record 14th time and Dhoni has a tally of 13.
Indian Cricket Team’s Head Coach Rahul Dravid said that Virat is an exceptional player & his absence in the first two Tests will provide an opportunity for other players to step up & deliver some good performances. For the unversed, Virat will miss the first two Tests of the five-match series against England due to personal reasons.
India will lock horns against England in the first Test which will be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The second Test of the series will be played at Vishakapatnam. The third & fourth Tests of the series will be played at Ranchi and the fifth and final Test at Dharamshala.
Rohit & Shubman made it to the ICC ODI Team of the Year 2023
India’s star Captain Rohit Sharma & star opener Shubman Gill also cut into the ICC ODI team of the Year 2023. The players of Australia & South Africa too cut into the team. Both of them have two cricketers each in the team while all-rounder Daryl Mitchell was the only representative from New Zealand.
Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami & Kuldeep Yadav who were also a part of India’s Team for the ODI World Cup 2023 were inducted into the lineup. Rohit had a sensational run in 2023, gathering 1255 runs at an average of 52. His standout innings came during the ODI World Cup 2023 where he scored 131 runs. While Kohli stood out by reaching three-digit figures on six occasions. He also broke India’s all-time great Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most international centuries during the World Cup on his way to winning the Player of the Tournament award at the Marquee event.
Daryl Mitchell & Klaasen managed to grab a spot too
New Zealand’s star Daryl Mitchell stood out for New Zealand by smashing five tons & amassing 1204 runs at an average of 52.34. In the Proteas clan, Klaasen has been named as the wicket-keeper in the ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year 2023. Even Marco Jansen earned a place in the lineup for his heroics with the ball.
In the Australian clan, Adam Zampa earned a spot in the ODI lineup by registering four-wicket hauls in consecutive fixtures during Australia’s successful run at the World Cup and he finished as the second-highest wicket-taker. Indian bowlers Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami & spinner Kuldeep Yadav earned a spot in the ICC ODI team of the year 2023 with their scintillating performances. Siraj then scalped 44 wickets while Shami, who ended the ODI WC as the highest wicket-taker of the tournament, bagged four five-wicket hauls in 2023. On the other hand, spinner Kuldeep Yadav scalped 49 ODI wickets to earn a spot in the ODI lineup.
