There has been much hype about the beginning of the IPL 2024 since the auction was held in December 2023. Fans are curious to know when the league will begin in 2024. And the BCCI was under pressure to fix a window between March & May for the cash-rich league to ensure the availability of Indian as well as overseas players. As per the latest report in Cricbuzz, they have been able to do that & are confident that the league can be played between March & May.
IPL 2024 is all set to begin on March 22 & conclude on May 26. BCCI has zeroed down on these dates after keeping into account the General elections which are set to take place in the same period. Just 9 days after the IPL the much-awaited T20 World Cup 2024 will begin in West Indies. If the tournament ends near May 26 then the Indian team will have to fly immediately to Windies for the World Cup which will begin just five days after the end of IPL 2024. However, India’s first match in the competition would be 9 days after the end of IPL 2024 on June 5.
BCCI has revealed tentative IPL 2024 dates with Franchisees
As per the reports, BCCI has discussed the dates with the franchise owners. On the other hand, WPL 2024 is all set to be played between February 22 to March 27, in Bengaluru and Delhi. BCCI is in no mood to shift the league to somewhere else & is trying its best to hold the league at home despite the General Elections.
IPL was held abroad in 2009 & 2014 due to General Elections. In 2009, it was fully relocated to South Africa while in 2014, the initial phase of the tournament was played in UAE and the remaining part in India. The tournament was played in India only in 2019 despite the General Elections.
If the teams of India’s key players qualify for the finals, they will have less time to prepare for the T20 World Cup 2024. They will have just 9 days in hand & in that, they will have to travel to the USA & get used to conditions. India has displayed poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2022 & will have to overcome that to emerge victorious in the upcoming edition.
