BBL 13 is all set to kickstart & ahead of the new season of the much-anticipated league, former England batter Ian Bell has joined Melbourne Renegades as an assistant coach under Head Coach David Saker. Bell has been expanding his coaching resume in recent years having worked as a coach in BBL 2022 for Hobart Hurricanes. He had worked as an assistant coach under Adam Griffith in his tenure with the Hurricanes.
Bell has worked with New Zealand as a consultant prior to the ODI World Cup 2023 having coaching stints with England U19s, Derbyshire, Birmingham Phoenix, and Chennai Braves in the Abu Dhabi T10. Bell has also got playing experience in the Big Bash League & helped Perth Scorchers to win the title in the 2016-2017 season. Bell and Saker have worked together previously when Bell was an England player and Saker was an England assistant coach.
Bell will work with an experienced group of individuals in the Renegades team. The franchise has further included former Ashes player Peter Siddle and Nathan Lyon in an already experienced squad that includes Aaron Finch, Shaun Marsh, and Kane Richardson. He will be familiar with Renegades’ overseas players Quinton de Kock, Joe Clarke, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
Rashid Khan withdraws from BBL 13
There comes a major jolt for Strikers as their star player Rashid Khan has withdrawn from BBL 2023. He will not play for Adelaide Strikers in the upcoming edition of the league after suffering a back injury. The nature of the injury is severe which requires him to undergo surgery.
Adelaide Strikers confirmed the news in an Official Release. They wrote that Rashid has withdrawn from the upcoming BBL 2023 due to an injury that requires him to undergo surgery. The franchise also expressed their sadness over the absence of Rashid Khan. They said that Rashid is a fan favorite & has been with the Strikers for seven years. They will miss his services & hope that the prolific spinner recovers on time & comes back to action.
Notably, Rashid Khan has played for Afghanistan in the ODI World Cup 2023. He ended the marquee event as the highest wicket-taker with 11 wickets in his kitty.
