There is a lot of chaos in the Indian Cricket team after their ODI World Cup 2023 final defeat. Since India’s loss in World Cup 2023 final, the BCCI has taken some bold decisions regarding the team management & leadership. The BCCI has already decided to extend the contract of India’s head coach Rahul Dravid & his support staff. Despite the loss in the finals, the BCCI wants Dravid to continue in the role of head coach. And Dravid didn’t disappoint Board & has accepted their decision to continue with his stint of Head Coach. Infact, the BCCI has also extended the contract of the support staff. After getting Dravid’s support BCCI now wants Rohit back in the role of white ball captain for T20 World Cup 2024. A PTI report makes it clear that the BCCI secretary Jay Shah will meet Ajit Agarakar led panel in Delhi to discuss the squads for South Africa tour & the roadmap of T20 World Cup 2024.
T20 World Cup 2024: Hardik Pandya ruled out of action due to injury
Hardik Pandya is already ruled out of action for few weeks which opens the door for Suryakumar & Rohit Sharma to lead South African team. BCCI are convinced with Rohit’s leadership skills as he has led the squad in the Asia cup & World Cup efficiently guiding Indian team to success. And so they want Rohit to continue in his capacity of Captain for white ball format.
“Yes, there remains a question what happens when Hardik comes back but in BCCI, they feel that if Rohit agrees to lead in T20Is, he will lead in the T20 World Cup. In case Rohit doesn’t agree then Surya continues as captain for T20Is in South Africa,” a BCCI source privy to the development told PTI on the condition of anonymity.
Hardik Pandya has led India in the T20I format since the t20 World cup 2022 & has done a decent job. It would be interesting to see what happens when Hardik will return backl to action & Rohit Sharma agrees to captain in South Africa tour as well as T20 World Cup 2024.
Virat Kohli took a break from SA vs IND white ball series
On Wednesday, Virat Kohli has asked the BCCI to grant him a break from South Africa’s white ball series. Virat has played much cricket for a few months now & he want to take break from South Africa white ball series inorder to rejuvenate & come back stronger. He might utilize this time to think about his future in white ball format & take a decision on that. Both Virat & Rohit has not played T20Is for more than a year now & with ODI World Cup 2023 not ending in their favor, it seems that they want to focus on test cricket as of now.
