Slovenia and Georgia are in Group F for the FIBA World Cup 2023, and the two teams will be facing each other on August 28 in Okinawa, Japan. In this article, we will give you a preview of the game, a prediction, and more.
Both teams won their previous matches
Slovenia got off to a slow start against Venezuela on Saturday. However, their star player, Luka Doncic, put on a tremendous performance in the second half to win 100-85. Doncic finished with 37 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and two steals.
Georgia, on the other hand, defeated their opponent, Cape Verde, very quickly with a score of 85-60. Tornike Shengelia had 16 points and seven rebounds, while Orlando Magic star Goga Bitadze scored 15 points with 11 rebounds and two steals in just 20 minutes.
The last three games of the teams against each other
The match on August 28 (Monday) will mark the fourth time since 2011 that Slovenia and Georgia will face each other in an international tournament. The last three games they played against each other were in the EuroBasket, and all of them were won by Slovenia. However, all three games were very competitive and not one-sided. In 2011, it was a 12 point win, a 4 point win in 2013, and an 11 point win in 2015.
Dallas Mavericks star Doncic will be facing Georgia for the first time, so it will be interesting to see if the “El Matador” can avoid making silly mistakes in the first few minutes of the game. Georgia beat Cape Verde in their last match, and they can do it again on Monday.
Prediction :
Slovenia is slightly favored in their matchup against Georgia because Doncic will be the best player on the court. Even though Georgia has few NBA players on their roster, if Luka starts to dominate, Georgia will have a hard time winning. Slovenia potentially wins a back-and-forth game, pulls back in the fourth quarter, and gets double digits.
Rosters :
Slovenia’s roster includes: Luka Doncic, Ziga Dimec, Zoran Dragic, Jaka Blazic, Jakob Cebasek, Ziga Samar, Bine Prepelic, Gregor Glas, Klemen Prepelic, Mike Tobey, Aleksej Nikolic, and Gregor Hrovat.
Georgia’s roster includes: Goga Bitadze, Mikheil Berishvili, Rati Andronikashvili, Sandro Mamukelashvili, Duda Sanadze, Kakhaber Jintcharadze, Giorgi Turdziladze, Giorgi Shermadini, Giorgi Tsintsadze, Thaddeus McFadden, Tornike Shengelia, and Luka Liklikadze.
