The 2023–24 NBA season will begin on October 5, and LA Lakers star LeBron James will become the sixth player in the league’s history to play 21 seasons. That will put him on the list of veteran players such as Kevin Willis, Kevin Garnett, Robert Parish, Dirk Nowitzki, and Vince Carter. James is expected to play as many games as possible, and he is poised to break even more records this season.
Following are the records King James can break this season:
Can Become first player to reach 40,000 points
In the previous season, James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record to become the all-time leading scorer. He scored 1,590 points in just 55 games, which brought his career total to 38,652 regular-season points. In the past three seasons, he has missed 60 regular-season games each time. However, if he plays 60 games this season and maintains his career average of 27.2 points, James would become the first member of the 40,000-point club.
Have the highest regular season minutes played
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is the NBA’s all-time leader in minutes played, with an amazing 57,446. James has completed 54,094 minutes in the regular season, leaving him just 3,352 minutes behind and making it highly unlikely that he will surpass Kareem’s record next season. However, he is only 758 minutes away from surpassing Karl Malone, who took 54,852 minutes.
can become the first player to earn a 20th All-Star selection
James can also become the first player in NBA history to earn a 20th All-Star selection and secure a spot as a 20-time All-NBA member. Currently, he is tied with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with 19 All-Star selections. LeBron has been selected to the All-NBA First Team 13 times and has earned a spot on the second and third teams each.
Enter in the top three for free throws
Kobe Bryant (8,378), Moses Malone (8,531), and Karl Malone with an impressive 9,787 are ahead of James. To move up in the ranks, the Lakers superstar will need to surpass the 251 free throws he made last season and aim for at least 292 to surpass Bryant.
