Anrich Norje Joins Delhi Capitals After Prolonged Injury

Delhi Capitals have made a disappointing start to their IPL 2024, losing their first game against Punjab Kings. However, they have enjoyed a great boost ahead of their second match on Thursday with the return of Anrich Nortje.

The South African pacer has joined the team and was spotted bowling in the nets. In a recent video uploaded by Delhi Capitals on their social media handle, Nortje expressed his excitement about making his return to the IPL.

“It’s good to be back on the field again. There is high intensity and great training sessions are taking place. There are world-class players and coaches around. It is very good to be involved with the team again.” He said.

Anrich Nortje Has Been Leading Pacer For Delhi Capitals

Nortje was seen bowling at full throttle during the nets. He is coming after recuperating from a stress fracture injury. Notably, Nortje wasn’t part of the South Africa squad for the 2023 World Cup and India’s tour of South Africa because of the same.

“I am happy to be involved with the team again. It’s been a while and I have played three domestic games so far. The intensity in nets is great. Really excited to get going. I had a long-extended break so that my body can recover properly,” Nortje said in a video posted by Delhi Capitals on X.

Before coming to IPL, Nortje had played a few games at the Cricket South Africa T20 Challenge. It will be interesting to see if Delhi slot him in their playing XI for their next match.

The Rishabh Pant’s team hasn’t made a great start to their campaign, having lost the first match against PBKS by 4 wickets. Delhi Capitals notched a decent total of 174 runs while batting first in the first innings. A lot of batters got starts but couldn’t convert those into big scores.

The highly anticipated return of Rishabh Pant was exciting but short-lived. He made 18 off 13 deliveries, including 2 fours.  In reply, Punjab Kings chased down the score in 19.2 overs with four wickets in hand. Sam Curran played a sensational knock of 63 runs in 47 deliveries, including six fours and one six.
