The NBA trade deadline is over and now the teams looking to improve their rosters will have to look toward NBA buyout candidates. There are still many quality role players available who have recently been acquired or are still free agents, such as Joe Harris or Killian Hayes. Teams at this stage are unlikely to find a superstar via free agency. However, this is a good place to find players who can improve in depth.
1) Miami Heat
The Miami Heat were hoping to add some big names to their roster, but nothing has panned out for them. They still seek the championship, but the current composition of their roster doesn’t look like it’s enough to take them to the top level. Adding some key players via NBA buyout candidates could help them strengthen their roster and give them another shot at the finals.
2) Sacramento Kings
The Sacramento Kings are finally moving on the right track. They have ended the longest playoff drought in NBA history and De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis could keep them competitive for a long time. Now they need players that will transform the team from contenders to legitimate championship contenders, and they can start by nabbing a rotational piece among the NBA buyout candidates.
3) LA Lakers
The LA Lakers were able to fully fill their backcourt rotation needs by adding Spencer Dinwiddie without giving up any of their pieces. However, this isn’t enough to turn their season around. The Lakers could benefit from adding shooters or backup players to address their inconsistencies. Picking up the right NBA buyout candidates will go a long way toward helping them move forward in the second half of the season.
4) San Antonio Spurs
Victor Wembanyama’s brilliant rookie season can be seen as proof that the Spurs have found the future face of their franchise. However, the supporting pieces around him do not match his level of play. Yes, the team is still young and developing, but sooner or later, Victor will need pieces around him that can support his development and the Spurs could do that by adding an experienced mentor or selecting Killian Hayes among NBA buyout candidates.
5) Philadelphia 76ers
The Philadelphia 76ers have lost Joel Embiid for a significant amount of time, which means they have to find a backup big man. Finding a power forward or center won’t be enough to fill the void he has left, but it will help them stay in the playoff picture. In addition, adding a quality backup player will give them better depth for Embiid’s return, which will improve their chances in the playoffs.
