Sonya Deville has finally returned to WWE after her nine-month hiatus. This return was her first appearance since suffering a torn ACL in July 2023. The surprise comeback took place backstage, where she approached Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark, likely attempting to recruit them. It was unclear why Sonya wanted to talk to Stark and Baszler. Whether it’s proposing to become their manager or forming a new group, a few things can happen. It is not certain when Deville will return to the ring. She has been a General manager, an assistant and a wrestler. However, in the recent backstage segment, Baszler seemed uninterested in whatever Deville was offering her.
Deville was seen making some discussions with these two
Both Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark became the number one contenders for the Women’s Tag Team Championship following their victory in a fatal 4-way match. Speculation about Deville’s return has been ongoing since day one, with wrestling insiders reporting that she was backstage at Raw. These rumors were confirmed when Deville appeared on Raw and introduced herself to Stark. Despite Bazler’s rejection, Sonya’s interaction with the two would likely lead to a new storyline.
Now with Deville back, the dynamics of the women’s tag team division will definitely get more exciting. Baszler and Stark are now the top contenders and might need some aid as they challenge Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill for the titles.
Sonya’s comeback will bring a significant change
Deville’s journey back to the WWE ring has been quite challenging. Last year, her tag team partnership with Chelsea Green came to a sudden halt due to her ACL injury. They just captured the Women’s Tag Team Championship and looked poised for a successful run. After sustaining an injury, Deville was replaced by Piper Niven as Chelsea Green’s tag team partner. This change allowed the women’s tag team division to advance, but they could not hold the titles for long. Now it will be interesting to see where Piper Niven would fit in the equation if the WWE creative team went with Deville, working with Baszler and Stark. Sonya’s return is an important development that could go in many directions.
