SummerSlam 2024 saw Roman Reigns helping the Undisputed WWE champion Cody Rhodes defend his title even though assisting “The American Nightmare” was not his first intention. So there is still a very possible chance of a third clash between the two on a big stage. Cody Rhodes talked about the Tribal Chief’s return at the SummerSlam post-match press conference. According to him, he is not sure but Roman deserves to get a rematch in the future. He kept the title for a long time, so a trilogy match is bound to happen.
Rhodes about a potential trilogy bout with Reigns
Reigns has officially become the babyface and Cody said that it is not easy when someone portrays a babyface.
“After being in the ring with him twice, it hits him harder. I was tapping the title like this because I know there is a third one somewhere down the line. I know I am not his friend,” said Rhodes. He further stated that Roman didn’t do that for him, he did it because of what’s happening within The Bloodline.
The American Nightmare asked the fans to keep an eye on what happens, especially on SmackDown after SummerSlam involving The Bloodline and The Tribal Chief. There will be different options for matches for the superstars embroiled in the storyline and it’s up to Roman to decide what he will do next regarding the title match. Cody Rhodes said that he is always ready.
The rivalry between Reigns and Rhodes is iconic
The rivalry between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes is arguably one of the greatest in the history of wrestling, which began at WrestleMania 39. In 2023, by winning the Royal Rumble, Rhodes got the title shot at Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39, and he aimed to finish his story by ending Reigns’ historic title reign. However, The American Nightmare was unsuccessful in doing so because Roman had held from the Bloodline members. A year later, Cody again attempted to finish his story and got successful. He won his second consecutive Royal Rumble and defeated The Head of the Table at WrestleMania despite all the odds against him.
Reigns and Cody Rhodes have headlined two back-to-back WrestleMania main events and now it remains to be seen if there will be a trilogy match between them. For now, Reigns will focus on resolving his issues with The Bloodline and Solo Sikoa.
