Sochaux vs Rennes: Preview
Sochaux form analysis
Les Lionceaux put together a strong run of form over the past several weeks, with three wins and a draw across five league matches. It started with a disappointing loss away at Niort 4-2. However, they put together an encouraging run of three games unbeaten prior to a disappointing 2-2 home draw against Red Star last time out. That stretch began with crushing Marignane 4-0 at home with striker Zohi grabbing a goal alongside Michel, Fatar and De Sa efforts. An excellent 3-0 away win at struggling Dijon came next with goals spread across the team from Daho, Fatar and Michel.
A hard fought 1-0 home victory over Nimes followed courtesy of Viltard’s first half penalty. Sochaux then looked on course for another win against Red Star, leading 2-0 at the break through a Dacosta double but conceded twice in the second half to draw 2-2. So while creating plenty and scoring goals, manager Oswald Tanchot will be concerned with dropping leads and conceding avoidable goals. Tightening up defensively and managing games better is now critical. If able to eradicate individual errors at the back whilst retaining potency upfront, Sochaux can get their promotion push back on track.
Rennes form analysis
Rennes have delivered a strong run of form across their last five Ligue 1 games, losing just once in that time. They started this period with a hard earned goalless draw away at Toulouse. What followed was an accomplished 3-1 come from behind victory at Clermont, with second half goals from Kalimuendo, Doué and a late Blas penalty completing the turnaround. Manager Julien Stéphan then oversaw an excellent 2-0 home win over Nice thanks to Bourigeaud’s penalty and a Kalimuendo strike.
Despite a thrilling 3-2 home loss next time out against Lyon. Terrier’s brace had put Rennes in total control before capitulating after the break. They responded superbly however, winning 2-1 last time out against Montpellier courtesy of early Terrier and Kalimuendo goals. With creativity and ruthlessness in the final third, Rennes have looked extremely dangerous in attack. Retaining focus and avoiding complacency at the back following leads is now key to push to the top half of the table.
