There comes a big blow for the Indian team ahead of the IND vs. SL Super 4 fixture of the Asia Cup 2023. As their middle order, batter Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the match due to an injury. Notably, Iyer missed the IND vs. PAK fixture due to a back spasm. And adding to his woes is that he couldn’t recover on time for India’s second fixture against Sri Lanka slated to be played on 12th September. Thus the middle-order batter has been ruled out of the fixture as confirmed by BCCI On Twitter.
Shreyas Iyer is currently being monitored by the BCCI as well as NCA staff present in Sri Lanka & will be not available for selection in the IND vs. SL fixture.
“Shreyas Iyer is feeling better but is yet to fully recover from back spasms. He has been advised rest by the BCCI Medical Team and has not traveled with the team to the stadium today for India’s Super 4 match against Sri Lanka,”
wrote BCCI on X.
Rohit Sharma updated about Shreyas’s Injury ahead of IND vs PAK
It was ahead of the India vs. Pakistan fixture that Indian team Captain Rohit Sharma announced the unavailability of Shreyas Iyer for the India vs. Pakistan fixture. It was because of a back spasm that he was ruled out of the IND vs. PAK clash followed by the IND vs. SL clash. And in place of Shreyas the management named KL Rahul in the Playing XI for the fixture against arch-rivals. At the post-match ceremony, Rohit said that the decision to include Rahul was taken just five minutes before the toss. And it looks like their decision turned out to be the best one as Rahul went on to slam 122 runs guiding India to a win along with Virat Kohli.
“And then KL, to return from injury and then find out 5 minutes before the toss that he’s playing, and to perform the way he did, it shows the mindset of the player,”
Rohit said.
Can India deliver in IND vs. SL, their second fixture on a trot
The most interesting thing to watch out for is the Playing XI of the Indian team for the India vs. Sri Lanka fixture which will be their second consecutive fixture. India was forced to play Pakistan for two consecutive days thanks to Rain God, with the fixture moving to a Reserve day. The team management will have to be cautious with the selection. Iyer’s injury is already a big blow to India with ODI World Cup 2023 less than 30 days to go.
Coming to the Asia Cup 2023 Finals, India needs to win this fixture to move ahead of the summit clash to be held on September 17. To manage the Player’s workload Mohammed Shami might replace Bumrah in this fixture. Indian team can go with Shami & Siraj in this fixture & then can bring back Bumrah for their next fixture against Shami.
India’s Probable XI vs. Sri Lanka:
Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj
