2) Sanju Samson
The wicket-keeper batter, Sanju Samson is another underrated player of the Indian Cricket team. He has been ignored for most of the big-ticket events by the selection committee & Asia cup 2023 is no different. In his short ODI career of 13 fixtures, he has managed to scalp 390 runs at an average of 55.71 & a strike rate of 104. His batting average is double of Suryakumar Yadav but still, SKY has been picked as a middle-order batting option along with returning batters Shreyas Iyer & KL Rahul.
While Shreyas is completely fit for featuring in the Asia Cup 2023 but concerns over KL Rahul’s fitness still prevail. KL is recovering from a niggle & thus Sanju Samson has been kept as a backup for him in the Asia Cup squad. However, chances of Sanju Samson featuring in the Playing XI of Asia Cup 2023 seems to be low with India’s first wicket-keeping option Ishan Kishan being named in the squad. Ishan’s figures in the ODI format speaks volume & with Ishan, Shreyas & Surya named in India’s Asia Cup 2023 squad, Samson will probably warm the bench in Asia Cup 2023.
