Shikhar Dhawan Opens Up On The Young Generation’s Mindset
Despite having 13 years of experience playing for India in international cricket, the 37-year-old batsman is still looking to learn new things. He emphasized the new generation’s perspective and their capacity for self-expression while discussing the biggest shift he has seen in the way cricket is played these days.
According to the ICC, during the ceremony, Dhawan stated, “It’s incredibly encouraging to see. The only thing that is permanent in life is change. You must gradually adapt. It is amazing to watch how players have developed fresh approaches and methods of thinking. Even though we have been playing for a very long time, we are constantly inspired by the innovative shots that the younger players come up with. I always want to know how they were played.
In the T20 World Cup 2022, Suryakumar Yadav’s stroke was one that Dhawan tried learning. He said, “I was asking Suryakumar Yadav, he hit that six, and I said, ‘What do you do, man?’” As a result, he said, “I just bend and I do this.” I remarked that I would try doing that with the nets as well because the more tools you can carry, the easier it is, and it’s a great attitude.”
Shikhar Dhawan On The Young Generation’s Mindset
Dhawan described how the mindset of the younger generation has changed the game by drawing comparisons between the era in which he first began playing cricket and the current strategy. “The train of thought is broadening. Earlier, our coaches would advise us to play close to the basket rather than taking big shots. We were therefore brought up with that kind of mentality, but nowadays, when a young person enters, they will just go and express themselves. So, once more, the essential point is that the younger generation seems to express themselves without inhibition.”
He continued, “The new generation plays and expresses themselves very nicely and doesn’t feel that guilt as well that “I got out this way or that way,” so I feel that is the biggest change we have seen, and it’s amazing. Where else do we also express ourselves, We had that thing because we were mentally trained to play more on the ground.”
About Shikhar Dhawan
Dhawan, who has played for India in 34 Tests, 167 ODIs, and 68 T20 Internationals and has amassed over 10,000 international runs, has a sterling record in 50-over international ICC competitions. He has played in the Cricket World Cups of 2015 and 2019, as well as the 2013 and 2017 Champions Trophy. During these tournaments, he has scored 1,238 runs at an average of 65.15, including six hundred.
Dhawan, who has played in two World Cups, discussed the thrilling experience of competing on one of cricket’s biggest platforms and what it meant for him. Dhawan said, “When playing in a World Cup, it’s a very special feeling, and that’s what you prepare for when you are playing bilateral series. Your primary goal in that or the upcoming World Cup. Therefore, bilateral series is like a step-by-step [process] and we are maturing. It feels very different when you take baby moves towards a larger goal.”
“When my name was originally added to the World Cup roster, I said, “Okay, that’s cool. ” But then you remind yourself, “History mein naam aagaya hai ki World Cup bhi khele hain” (It gets stated in history that they too took part in the World Cup). As a cricket player, it is, therefore, a huge accomplishment and a wonderful feeling. And a lot of pressure,” he continued.
The exciting 2023 Cricket World Cup gets underway on October 5 with the thrilling England vs. New Zealand match, while the championship game is scheduled for November 19 at cricket’s largest stadium in Ahmedabad.
