Sheriff Tiraspol vs Roma: Preview
Sheriff Tiraspol form analysis
Osy began with an impressive 5-0 thrashing of Dacia-Buiucani in the Moldovan Super Cup thanks to goals from Mbekeli, Yansane and a Atal brace.
They carried that form into Europe by fighting back to beat KI 2-1 on aggregate in their Europa League playoff. After a 1-1 away draw, Sheriff won 2-1 at home with Luvannor and Zohouri netting in the second leg.
However, their domestic form then dipped with a disappointing 0-2 loss away to Milsami. Late goals from Lambarschi and Puntus saw Sheriff surprisingly beaten.
Sheriff did bounce back last time out though, hammering Floresti 5-1 at home in the league. Artunduaga, Atal and Luvannor all impressed in another ruthless attacking display.
Overall, it’s been a positive spell for Sheriff who have showcased again their quality going forward.
Roma form analysis
Roma began this spell by twice blowing the lead in an entertaining 2-2 home draw with Salernitana on the opening weekend. Despite two goals from Candreva, Belotti scored twice, and the points were split.
Their performance then declined as Roma lost their following game, 1-2, on the road against Hellas Verona. Roma was defeated by goals from Duda and Ngonge in the first half despite Aouar getting one back.
Most recently, Roma displayed strong competition in a nail-biting 1-2 home loss to AC Milan. Giroud’s penalty gave them the early lead before Leao added a second. Spinazzola’s last-second strike served some solace.
However, Roma convincingly bounced back last time out, hammering Empoli 7-0 at home. Dybala and summer signing Lukaku both grabbed braces in a ruthless attacking display that showcased their scary potential on the counter attack.
Overall, it’s been an inconsistent start to the season for Roma as they struggle for consistency. But the Empoli thrashing provided a glimpse of how devastating Jose Mourinho’s side can be when firing on all cylinders.
