Sheffield United vs Everton: Preview
Sheffield United form analysis
The Blades have found the step up to the Premier League difficult so far, losing 2 and winning 1 of their opening 3 matches.
They suffered disappointment on the opening day against Crystal Palace, losing 0-1 at home to Edouard’s second half strike in a game they struggled to create clear chances.
United responded well by producing an impressive performance to beat Nottingham Forest 2-1 away from home. Despite conceding early, they showed great spirit to turn it around through Hamer and late winner from Wood.
However, their last game saw them succumb to a narrow 1-2 home loss to champions Man City. After equalizing late through Bogle, United were undone by Rodri’s winner which condemned them to defeat.
Overall, United have shown promise and the capacity to compete well against strong opponents, as highlighted in their spirited victory at Forest. But their struggle to create regular chances and vulnerability from set pieces are issues needing addressed at this level.
Everton form analysis
Everton’s league form leading into September has been very poor, losing 4 and drawing just 1 of their last 5 games.
They ended last season surviving relegation but failing to build any momentum, drawing once and just about winning 1 of their final two matches against teams around them at the bottom.
That form has continued into this campaign. After edging past relegation rivals Bournemouth 1-0 on the final day last season, Everton have been on a downward spiral.
They’ve scored just 1 goal in their last 4 games, in a 0-1 loss away at Fulham. Everton have lacked any attacking threat and also been porous defensively, shipping 8 goals across these games.
Heavy defeats away at Villa (0-4) and home defeats to Wolves (0-1) and Fulham (0-1) have placed early pressure on Sean Dyche.
Overall, it’s been a dreadful start to the season for Everton. Finding a reliable source of goals, tightening up defensively and picking up points quickly are urgently needed to avoid another relegation battle.
