Sheffield United vs Brighton: Preview
Sheffield United form analysis
The Blades have struggled for consistent form and results so far this season, as shown by their recent string of matches. Which started with a convincing 2-0 defeat away to title contenders Manchester City. Then the Blades managed an encouraging 2-2 home draw against West Ham United, coming from behind twice to salvage a point. However, Chris Wilder’s side were unable to build on that performance. Suffered a disappointing 3-2 loss away to Crystal Palace despite taking an early lead through Brereton.
The low point of their recent run came in a chastening 5-0 thrashing at home to Aston Villa, highlighting defensive weaknesses and a lack of resilience. There were some positives to take from their latest match as the Blades came from behind to beat Luton Town 3-1 away, with summer signing C.Archer netting his first goal for the club. Overall the results show inconsistency and a tendency to concede goals, albeit with some signs of attacking promise. Chris Wilder will be looking for his side to tighten up defensively and develop more consistency in their performances as they aim to climb away from the relegation zone.
Brighton form analysis
Brighton & Hove Albion’s recent form paints a picture of inconsistency and struggle to convert draws into wins. After back-to-back goalless draws against West Ham and Wolves, Brighton suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat away at Luton. The loss highlighted defensive frailties as the Seagulls conceded four times, unable to contain Luton’s attack. However, Graham Potter’s side responded well by earning a convincing 4-1 home win over rivals Crystal Palace. New signings Hinshelwood and Buonanotte both scored their first goals for the club in an encouraging attacking display.
But Brighton were unable to maintain that performance level in their next match, losing 2-1 away at Tottenham despite taking a 1st half lead through Gross’s penalty. Overall the results show Brighton have been solid defensively at times but prone to heavy defeats, while their attack has promise but lacks killer instinct in front of goal. Roberto De Zerbi will want greater consistency and ruthlessness from his side as they aim to turn draws into wins and move up the Premier League table in the coming weeks. Signs are there going forward but shoring up defensive weaknesses will also be key.
Sheffield United vs Brighton: Prediction
The Blades’ four points in their last four home games would certainly not help their cause for survival. However, one should agree that this is better than the two points their opponents have picked up in their last six league fixtures on the road.
Both these teams have had terrible defensive displays in recent games. Their attacking output has been much better. This means we are guaranteed a good number of goals.
