The Russian MMA fighter Shara Magomedov has revealed that he has received a green signal to fight in the United States with significant stipulations. The undefeated fighter is known for his impressive debut in the UFC with two straight wins. Magomedov faced a potential hurdle due to his unique physical condition, as he only has one eye. There were several concerns about whether this would stop him from competing in the US. But recent developments have provided some clarity. Now Magomedov can fight in certain venues within the country. “Bullet” has been always vocal about his desire to fight more bouts.
Magomedov can face restrictions in major cities
Now that Magomedov has a new opportunity, his focus is on his next opponent, Michal Oleksiejczuk, whom he is going to fight on Saturday. Recently, Magomedov went to California to shoot a film. While many believed he had visa issues due to past behavior, it’s now clear that his eye impairment was the primary concern. Magomedov admitted that he may face restrictions in cities like New York or Las Vegas; some states may grant special exemptions based on precedent. It would open up new avenues for the Russian fighter to continue his ascent in the UFC.
Shara revealed about his conversation with Dana White
During an interview with Red Corner MMA, Magomedov stated that he was told that he won’t be able to fight in some states as it will require some special agreements. Shara further said that he is ready to fight in the US for his fans. The Russian wants to fight according to the time zone of people from the Caucasus so that it is convenient for them to watch his fights. However, Magomedov also has a concern that if he fights in the United States, his fans have to wake up early and because his cornermen don’t have visas, they will not be able to get there.
Magomedov met UFC president Dana White during his stay in Las Vegas to discuss his future in the promotion. Reportedly, White informed Magomedov about his film role but also made an important offer. Describing the meeting, Shara stated that Dana White made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.
“My main request was to fight more often, and he granted it. He even placed me in the co-main event for this weekend’s card in Abu Dhabi. This is a golden opportunity that I needed to seize,” said Shara.
The Dagestani fighter believes that his success here could pave the way for more important demands, such as a higher payout and top-level opponents. For now, Magomedov is preparing for his upcoming fight this weekend and it remains to be seen if he makes his US debut.
