According to the claims, Shakib al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal, two seasoned cricketers, are not getting along. The latter has seen several highs and lows before being injured and disqualified from the 2023 Asia Cup. He made a triumphant 44 off 58 deliveries in the chase of 255 in the second One-Day International against New Zealand on Sunday in Dhaka, making a comeback. But despite his best efforts, the team lost by 86 runs.
Shakib is not thrilled with Tamim’s selection for the next World Cup, according to Bangladesh’s Somoy TV. Notably, the latter had informed the BCB that he would be limited to a maximum of 5 games in the championship match.
According to a news report, Shakib is unwilling to accede to Tamim’s proposal and has stated that if the starting batter is chosen for the final roster, he will resign as the team’s ODI captain and even withdraw from the competition.
The BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon was met by Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusingha, Shakib, and Tamim on Monday night at his residence, according to a Somoy TV report. Shakib was quite clear in saying that he would prefer someone else to start every game for the squad overtaking a guy who is just partially fit for the World Cup.
On microblogging platform X, the media manager of BLP team Rangapur Riders stated that Tamil is most likely not going to be selected for the World Cup. Nafees Iqbal, the manager of Bangladesh Media, has also been asked to leave his position by Shakib.
The Bangladeshi team, captained by Najmul Hossain Shanto, will play the third ODI against New Zealand in Dhaka on Tuesday, at which point the final lineup will likely be revealed. The team’s uniform for the highlight event will also be made public by the BCB.
