Sean Strickland Takes on David Goggins’ ‘Hell Week’ Challenge While Awaiting Title Shot
Sean Strickland is keeping himself busy as he awaits his shot at the UFC middleweight title. After a decisive victory over Paulo Costa, Strickland appears poised for a title opportunity, which will be decided when Dricus du Plessis faces Israel Adesanya at UFC 305 on August 17. However, Strickland has found another challenge in the interim—taking on David Goggins’ infamous ‘Hell Week’.
Goggins, a former Navy SEAL, ultramarathon runner, bestselling author, and social media personality with 12 million Instagram followers, has designed a grueling week of training meant to push participants to their mental and physical limits.
UFC legend Tony Ferguson recently became the first athlete to complete ‘Hell Week’ without quitting, achieving the feat last December before his bout against Paddy Pimblett at UFC 296. Despite Goggins being in his corner, Ferguson suffered his seventh consecutive defeat against the British lightweight.
Sean Strickland, who has publicly criticized Goggins and even challenged him to a 15-minute sparring session, has now been invited to try his hand at ‘Hell Week’.
“This is your opportunity to show that world that you can f*** me up,” Goggins said in a video message to his critics. “I will have camera crews out there. You make sure you bring your f***ing camera crew out there because you’re going to want to get this on camera.”
“A 49-year-old, broke down knee, f***ed up body guy is gonna put you through a camp that you think you can f*** me up in. This is your opportunity, Strickland. I haven’t forgotten about your video. I hope to see you there also.”
Strickland responded on Tuesday, accepting the challenge and mocking Goggins in a video where he mimicked Navy SEALS in a derogatory manner. “Goggins, I heard you want a piece,” Strickland said. “Challenge accepted. Just so you know man, the only thing you beat me at in life is f***ing running. But guess what, I don’t have to f***ing run. You run for me.”
As Sean Strickland prepares for this physically and mentally demanding week, fans eagerly await to see if he can replicate Ferguson’s achievement and endure Goggins’ ‘Hell Week’.
