The current UFC Bantamweight champion, Sean O’Malley, has recently given his opinion on Conor McGregor’s much-awaited return. The Irishman has announced his next fight in the new year against Michael Chandler. He claimed that the bout would be at middleweight and “Iron” was more than happy to accept the terms. Last year, “Sugar” shocked everyone when he defeated Aljamain Sterling via TKO to win the UFC Bantamweight title.
The Bantamweight champion about McGregor
In an interview with the UFC, “Sugar” stated that he believed that McGregor could make a successful return after his lengthy layoff. “He is very skilled, but I think the thing that sets people apart is obviously the mentality. I think if he can get back to that. You’re not going to be as good as you were if you were training and grinding for years, and you’re living on a yacht and doing these things, you just aren’t going to be the same person. So it’s what you do for those three months.”
Is the Irishman serious about his return ?
McGregor’s return comes with a story focusing exclusively on his lifestyle, which got a rise following his huge payday after fighting Floyd Mayweather in 2017. “The Notorious” is highly active on social media and he often shares a glimpse of his life that features drinking scenes and partying, raising doubts over the seriousness of his commitment to a comeback. Additionally, McGregor shared a video on social media comparing his celebration activities to Michael Chandler’s dedicated training for his upcoming fight.
McGregor admitted to considering an end
The “Mystic Mac” has admitted to considering a possible end to his career while discussing his apparent UFC 264 defeat against Dustin Poirier. McGregor suffered a foot fracture during the first round of their trilogy bout at UFC 264 in 2021. Following a knockout loss in his second bout, the Irishman faced criticism for his post-fight behavior. In his documentary, McGregor admitted to going too far and explained that he was in a different mode.
