As per reports, young sensation Sarfaraz Khan is set to play for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). This development comes after Sarfaraz made a phenomenal debut for India in Test cricket during the 3rd Test between India and England.
CSK is likely to rope in Sarfaraz Khan for the upcoming edition of the tournament as a replacement for Shivam Dube. The latter picked up an injury during Mumbai’s last league stage match against Assam and will take eight weeks to recover.
The Yellow Army is currently on the lookout for his replacement and skipper MS Dhoni has given the green light for roping in Sarfaraz Khan. In his recent Test debut against England, Sarfaraz Khan scored 62 and 68 in the two innings he batted.
Sarfaraz Played For RCB & Punjab Kings in IPL Earlier
Sarfaraz Khan isn’t an unknown commodity in the Indian Premier League either. However, he doesn’t boast of great numbers. The 26-year-old debuted for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2015 edition of the Indian Premier League. The franchise released him ahead of the 2019 season but Punjab Kings bought his services the next season.
In the 2022 IPL Auction, Delhi Capitals purchased his services but below-par performance in the 2023 season meant that the Delhi-based franchised released him before the 2024 auction.
The young batter went unsold at the IPL 2024 auction. If reports are to be believed, Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore have also expressed interest in buying his services.
RCB and KKR still have 2.85 crores and 1.35 crores left in the bank, while Chennai Super Kings have 1 crore. It will be interesting to see if Sarfaraz Khan will be able to bag a contract before the 2024 season starts.
The official schedule of the IPL 2024 hasn’t been announced yet. As per a report by Cricbuzz, the league is set to commence on 22nd March 2024. Due to the general elections, a partial schedule of 10-12 days would be announced.
“The league will kick off on March 22 in Chennai,” informed IPL chairman Arun Singh Dhumal in the report.
BCCI will announce the IPL 2024 schedule on Star Sports on February 22 (Thursday) at 5 PM IST. It is speculated that the final of the IPL 2024 edition will be played on 26th May 2024.
