Bangladesh felt the absence of Captain Shakib-Al-Hasan
Coming to the India vs Bangladesh fixture the stand-in Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss & opted to bat first against India in Match 16 of the World Cup 2023 at the MCA stadium in Pune. There were certain changes in Bangladesh’s lineup as their regular captain Shakib-Al-Hasan is recovering from an injury & has been ruled out of the fixture. Najmul Hossain stepped in the role of stand-in captain in Shakib’s absence.
Earlier on Wednesday, Bangladesh Coach opened up about Shakib-Al-Hasan’s availability. He said that if Shakib recovers fully then only he will play in the IND vs BAN clash. He also said that Shakib is batting well & also did a running session. However, he highlighted that any decision about his inclusion in the Playing XI only after the reports of the scan will be assessed. It seems like Shakib is still having difficulty in playing & thus has been granted rets for this fixture as well.
Bangladesh fluttered after getting an ideal start.
Bangladesh won the toss & opted to bat first on a wicket that is known as a haven for batters. Batting first, Bangladesh got off to a good start as Tanzid Hassan (51) & Litton Das (66) turned their heads around by stitching a massive 93-run stand for the first wicket. However, after their dismissals, there was a little setback with Captain Shanta (8) & Hasan Miraz (3) going back to the pavilion early after losing their wickets. Then came Mushfiqur Rahim & Mahmudullah who played a crucial cameo of 28 runs & 46 runs respectively. However, as Indian bowlers scalped wickets at regular intervals Bangladesh could not post more than 256 runs total on board. With India beginning their second innings it is worth seeing whether Rohit Sharma & Co chase the target of 256 runs or will suffer the first defeat of the tournament.
