Cricketer KL Rahul, the wicket-keeper batsman for India, will be unable to play in the opening two matches of the Asia Cup 2023, according to head coach Rahul Dravid. India would have to enter the field without Rahul, which would require another wicket-keeper batter to take the field, as Pakistan and Nepal were set to be their opponents in their first two games. The primary 17-man squad’s only keeper is Ishan Kishan, although the Indian team also has Sanju Samson on hand as the reserve 18th player.
Samson, though, cannot yet be added to the starting XI. Samson would need to be a member of the primary 17-man squad in order to participate in a game for the Indian side. Rahul would need to be disqualified from the entire tournament, not just the first few games, for it to occur. Rahul has currently only missed the first couple of games, and head coach Dravid is still confident that he will be able to play again soon.
Sanju Samson replaces cricketer KL Rahul:
Dravid told the reporters on Tuesday, “He’s had a really good week with us. Really beautifully done, and a lot of things were done. He is moving down the path we want him to go quite well. However, he won’t be available for the Kandy portion of the tour or the opening round of the Asia Cup. For the next few days, while we are gone, the NCA will take care of him. We’ll reevaluate on September 4 and go from there. But he’s making excellent progress, and the indicators are encouraging. He won’t be available for the opening two contests.”
Rahul may be permanently disqualified from the rest of the 2023 Asia Cup if the team management determines that he needs additional time to be fully ready for selection. As the squad’s sole reserve, Samson would be automatically included in the 17-person roster in such a scenario. Samson will then be available for selection after that.
