Sanju Samson has an attitude problem, reckons Sreesanth
Indian cricket fraternity is quite divided about Sanju Samson being sidelined by Indian selectors. Samson, who averages around 55, was not chosen for Asia Cup 2023, Asian Games 2023, ODI series against Australia and World Cup 2023.
Some ex Indian cricket team legends have come forward to support Samson on this cause. However, S. Sreesanth has criticised Sanju Samson and sided with the BCCI selectors’ decision to exclude him from the team.
“It is the right decision. The legends of the game rate him highly but he doesn’t listen when he is asked to play according to the pitch. He has to change his attitude,” Sreesanth said.
Sreesanth was the player who brought Samson to Rajasthan Royals under the leadership of Rahul Dravid who is current head coach of Indian cricket team. Usually, Sreesanth is quite supportive of Samson and this is a positive criticism.
“I often tell hin to stay at the wicket. He has been given enough chances but lacks consistency,” he added.
Undoubtedly, Samson has all the talent in the world be an international cricketer for India. For that, he has to make some adjustments in his game. He likes to play only one way without taking situation or pitch into the consideration. That has been the criticism of Sreesanth.
As mentioned, Samson averages 55 in ODIs with a strike rate of 104. He hasn’t played any ODI international game against Australia or England. Most of his runs have come against Sri Lanka, West Indies and Zimbabwe.
Still, there is no significant achivement in his career yet. He has played a number of spectacular innings in Indian Premier League but as the case lies, to become a part of Indian cricket team, one has elevate his game to far superior and outstanding level.
Does Samson has a place in Indian cricket team?
Indian cricket team is complete at the moment. They have got a great combination of young and experienced players. The youngesters in current Indian team are as talented as Samson but they have got more substance to show up when the opportunity arises.
Samson largely believes in his stand and deliver philosophy which looks impressive in a T20 game but in a long format game, much more is required. The classic Indian method is to bat through, create pressure and once set, put on display your power game.
Ultimately as Sreesanth mentioned, there are some adjustments that need to be made before Samson can be optimistic about his playing chances in Indian cricket team.
