Sandeep Warrier, Aarathy Kasturi Raj’s better half and her rock of support, has witnessed her hardships over the years and couldn’t be more pleased to watch the renowned roller skating pro win her first Asian Games medal, a team bronze in the 3000m relay in Hangzhou. Warrier is a quick-thinking fast-medium bowler who competes for Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket. He has participated in the IPL and was fortunate to play in a T20 International while on the COVID-19 successful tour of Sri Lanka in 2021. Sandeep Warrier On Wife Aarathy’s Win In Asian Game 2023
In an interview, Warrier told PTI from Chennai, “I’m pleased with her. She eventually made it, and it made me very pleased. I have witnessed her adversity over the past six to seven years, but she has persevered and has not given up.”
Aarathy, 29, began roller skating when she was five years old and competed in the Asian Games for the second time. India won its first medal ever in the speed skating category with this achievement.
In 2010, roller sports made its Asian Games debut when Anup Kumar Yama won bronze in the men’s single free skating competition before teaming up with Avani Panchal to get third in the pairs competition.
Aarathy, who is a doctor by training and is now pursuing a postgraduate degree in clinical embryology, had the option of giving up roller skating following the Asian Games 2018’s poor seventh-place showing.
Many people’s plans were disrupted by the uncertainty surrounding the Asian Games, which were postponed by a year due to the pandemic. Aarathy also had a rough experience, suffering several scratches and bruises on her head while playing a notoriously dangerous sport.
But she persisted in her quest for a medal in the Asian Games.
“I am aware of the work she has put in over the past few years. I witnessed firsthand how committed she was to keeping the spotlight firmly fixed on this medal. I can’t recall the last time she had a break; it’s been two to three years,” Sandeep said.
“I haven’t heard her whine about anything. Most people become less intense and focused once the Games are postponed. However, I haven’t observed that with her. She would train for almost seven hours every day with no signs of letting up, and she has been committed to the Asian Games the entire time. For the work she has put in over the previous two years, I was anticipating she would also receive the individual award,” he added.
The medium-pacer, however, said that their instant connection occurred when they first met in 2016 at a gathering and that their “love for speed” was not the only thing they had in common.
They “clicked” right away when Warrier, a cricketer for the Ranji Trophy at the time, attended an event at a college in Chennai. Their narrative is that of a “skater-got-bowled,” according to the name of their Instagram profile.
Sandeep continued, “When I visited her institution for an event in 2016, that’s when I first met her. She oversaw the college’s athletic department. That’s how I met her, says Warrier, who later married Aarathy in 2019.”
“It recently occurred for us. I was quite fortunate to run across her that day. The time we spent together after that was when things “just clicked for us,” said Warrier, who made his IPL debut for KKR in the 2019 season.
“She works hard. Although she had a busy schedule, she was passionate. She will work out in the morning, go to college, and then work out again. She has been completely devoted to skating. She enjoys skating, which, in my opinion, has kept her going,” he added.
“I am aware of the struggles she has had recently. I would argue that she didn’t just struggle; she succeeded because of the commitment she showed throughout the last 1.5 years. We avoid discussing each other’s sports. In general, we discuss our diets and training regimens a lot but not each other’s sports. It becomes crucial to give each other space as and when it’s required, even in relationships where both partners are professional athletes.
“We give one another room. She enjoys having her area while she is skating, and I enjoy having my own space when I am playing cricket. She just began following cricket, albeit she isn’t all that interested in the sport. But I closely watch her racing and go with her to all national competitions,” he continued.
The Kerala cricketer, who is currently working for India Cements, has also relocated his home base to Chennai and has played for Tamil Nadu for four seasons.
