Salford City vs Burnley: Preview
Salford City form analysis
The Ammies began with a 0-1 home loss to Morecambe, failing to break their visitors down. They suffered another 1-0 loss in the EFL Cup away at Bolton. Salford then lost 1-2 at home to Walsall despite Smith putting them ahead. A third straight defeat came away at Notts County by 0-2 as issues in attack and defense surfaced. Most recently, Salford conceded late to lose 2-3 away at Harrogate after twice equalizing through Tilt and Smith.
Overall, it’s been a difficult start for Salford, losing 4 of their first 5 competitive games. Lack of attacking threat has been a concern, scoring just 3 times. But the defense has also looked vulnerable, conceding 8 goals already. Salford needs to tighten up at the back and get the key attackers like Smith firing. The EFL Trophy loss at Bolton highlighted Salford’s issues breaking defensive sides down. If Wood can address these problems in both boxes, Salford have enough quality to turn things around after this poor start.
Burnley form analysis
Burnley suffered a 1-3 home loss to Aston Villa in the Premier League, with only Foster’s goal to show for their efforts. They did edge past Nottingham Forest 1-0 in the League Cup thanks to Amdouni’s late winner. But defensive issues resurfaced in a heavy 2-5 home defeat to Tottenham, despite twice taking the lead through Foster and Brownhill. Burnley then drew 1-1 at Forest in the league return, with Amdouni again scoring before being pegged back. Most recently, they lost 0-1 at home to Manchester United, undone by a Bruno Fernandes goal on the stroke of halftime.
Overall, it’s been a difficult return to the Premier League for Burnley so far as expected. They’ve looked vulnerable defensively and struggled to create chances, despite the efforts of Foster. However, new signing Amdouni has impressed with key goals.
If manager Vincent Kompany can make Burnley harder to beat and more productive in attack, they have a platform to build on. But improving defensive organization and adding more goal threat are essential if Burnley are to have any hope of avoiding relegation this season.
