Salernitana vs Monza: Preview
Salernitana form analysis
Granata have struggled for form and results in their last five Serie A matches. Despite Andrea Martegani’s early opener against Genoa, second half goals from Maximiliano Retegui and Andri Guðmundsson saw Salernitana succumb to a 2-1 home loss. Away at Roma, Salernitana went down 2-0 after goals from Paulo Dybala and Lorenzo Pellegrini before Grigoris Kastanos grabbed a late consolation.
A dull goalless home draw with Torino offered little respite before a disappointing 3-1 home defeat to Empoli – Salernitana equalized through Shon Weissman but late goals from Mamadou Niang and Matteo Cancellieri sealed Empoli’s win. Most recently, Salernitana were thrashed 4-0 at Inter Milan courtesy of strikes from Marcus Thuram, Lautaro Martinez, Denzel Dumfries and Marko Arnautovic. Attackingly and defensively, Salernitana have badly struggled – scoring just three goals while conceding 12 in this poor run. With Salernitana deep inside the relegation zone, significant improvements will be urgently required to preserve their Serie A status.
Monza form analysis
Monza’s recent Serie A form has been inconsistent but with some positive signs. They suffered a heavy 3-0 home loss to Empoli as Szymon Żurkowski’s hat-trick dominated the match for the visitors. However, Monza bounced back with an important 1-0 home win over Sassuolo thanks to Andrea Colpani’s first half strike. A goalless draw away to mid-table Udinese represented a solid point before another 0-0 stalemate at home against struggling Verona. Monza failed to create enough clear-cut chances in these tight games.
Most recently though, Monza produced their best performance of the season to stun AC Milan 4-2 at home. Matteo Pessina’s penalty and Dany Mota put Monza 2-0 up before late goals from substitutes Bondo and Colombo sealed a win for either side of Milan’s fightback. Attackingly Monza have struggled for consistency but their best can trouble any team. Tightening up defensively will be key if they are to make a push for the top table.
