Salernitana vs Inter Milan: Preview
Salernitana form analysis
Granata began with a 1-1 home draw against Udinese, conceding to Samardzic before Dia equalized. However, defensive issues surfaced in a 0-2 loss away at Lecce next time out. Salernitana’s problems at the back continued as they were beaten 0-3 at home by Torino in their next match.
They did manage to stop the rot by grinding out a 1-1 home draw with Frosinone, coming from behind through Jovane’s second half leveler. But their defensive struggles persisted in a 0-1 defeat away at Empoli, undone by Baldanzi’s first half strike.
Overall, it’s been a difficult start to the season for Salernitana as they battle to avoid relegation again. They’ve looked vulnerable defensively, keeping just one clean sheet and conceding 8 goals in 5 games. Going forward, scoring has been an issue with just 3 goals scored so far. If manager Paulo Sousa can tighten Salernitana up defensively and make them more dangerous in attack, they have a chance to turn things around. But substantially improving their performances at both ends of the pitch is crucial after this poor early season form.
Inter Milan form analysis
Inter had a professional 2-0 away win at Cagliari thanks to goals from Dumfries and Martinez. They followed that up with an excellent 4-0 home thrashing of Fiorentina, with Martinez netting twice alongside strikes from Thuram and Calhanoglu.
Inter produced their best display yet in a 5-1 demolition of rivals AC Milan, sparkling in attack through goals from Mkhitaryan (2), Thuram, Calhanoglu and Frattesi. However, their levels dropped in a narrow 0-1 away win at Empoli, edged out by Dimarco’s goal. Most recently, Inter suffered their first defeat, losing 1-2 at home to Sassuolo despite Dumfries putting them ahead.
Overall, Inter have showcased their quality in spells, playing some superb attacking football. Martinez has led the line brilliantly, ably supported by new signings like Mkhitaryan. But Simone Inzaghi’s side have lacked consistency, highlighted in the underwhelming display against Empoli.
If Inter can regain their focus and intensity, they still have an excellent chance of retaining their Scudetto. But addressing their drops in performance levels is crucial if they are to fend off the challenge from the likes of Milan, Napoli and Juventus this season.
