Two of the most illustrious figures in the sport, Sachin Tendulkar & Virat Kohli, who have a long list of records to their credit, are regarded as the sport’s all-time greatest batters. With over 18000 runs in ODIs and over 15000 runs in Test matches, Tendulkar retired from the game. The only batsman to play 200 Tests and score 100 hundreds in international cricket, he played 443 ODIs and 200 Tests and scored a cumulative 100 centuries.
Virat Kohli, on the other hand, has 76 hundreds and over 25,000 runs in international cricket at the age of 34. He needs just 4 more hundred to surpass Tendulkar’s 49-ODI tonne mark. However, bowling was something that both loved to do, Tendulkar more so than Kohli.
The ‘Little Master’ concluded his international career for India with 201 wickets, 154 of which came in one-day internationals with two fifers. Intriguingly, Virat Kohli, a batsman and orthodox medium pacer, claimed a wicket from his very first delivery in international cricket, setting a record that is still unmatched. Additionally, he has four ODI and four T20I wickets to his credit. As a result, fans frequently wonder which hitters both legendary players have thrown out.
Batters dismissed by Sachin Tendulkar & Virat Kohli:
3. Kevin Pietersen:
During India’s 2007 tour of England, Kevin Pietersen was struck out in a Test match by Sachin Tendulkar. The incident took place at the Oval during the third Test of the series. When Tendulkar was introduced to turn over for Pietersen, he had 41 runs in his batting order. Tendulkar delivered a leg-break outside the off-stump during this phase, and Pietersen attempted to play an expansive drive but was only able to edge the ball to the slips, where Dravid made a simple catch.
In the lone T20I encounter of the 2011 England tour to India, Pietersen looked threatening because he had amassed 33 runs. Virat Kohli was added by MS Dhoni to try his hand at bowling, and on his first delivery in international T20 cricket, Kohli removed Kevin Pietersen. Notably, MS Dhoni removed the bails after Kohli produced a wide delivery full on the leg side that the England batter tried to flick but instead moved out of his crease to. As a result, Kohli made history by being the first bowler in T20I history to record a wicket on his very first pitch.
2. Brendon McCullum:
In 2009, during India’s visit to New Zealand, Sachin Tendulkar dismissed former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum during a Test match played in Wellington. In the second innings of the aforementioned Test match, McCullum scored just 6 runs for New Zealand before being thrown out by Rahul Dravid at first slip on a big-spinning leg break.
Virat Kohli dismissed McCullum in Wellington’s fifth ODI of the 2014 India tour of New Zealand. Before Kohli misled him with a sluggish delivery, which McCullum chipped to Rohit Sharma at cover, the Kiwi captain had scored 23 runs in 18 balls.
1. Mohammad Hafeez:
Mohammad Hafeez was struck out by Sachin Tendulkar in the opening ODI of Pakistan’s 2005 tour of India. India batted first during the match in Kochi, putting up 281/8 in 50 overs, with centuries from Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid. Laxmipathy Balaji gave India a fantastic start by defending the target. However, the middle-order batsmen Inzamam Ul Haq and Mohammad Hafeez stabilised the innings with respectable performances.
Tendulkar was inserted by captain Sourav Ganguly to provide team India a much-needed breakthrough, much to the amazement of the opposition. Much to the pleasure of Ganguly, Tendulkar, the willy bowler, struck out both batters, with Hafeez going down for 42 runs and the renowned Indian batsman finishing with 5/50.
On the other side, Mohammad Hafeez was removed by Virat Kohli in a T20I at the 2012 T20 World Cup in Colombo. When trying to make room to play a shot that was sent outside leg stump to the off-side, the Pakistani opener, who had already scored 15 runs, was out. India defeated Pakistan’s 128 in 19.4 overs—which they had previously surpassed in 17 overs—with Kohli still standing at 78—and went on to win the match handily by 8 wickets.
