Sachin Tendulkar Congratulates Ravichandran Ashwin and Jonny Bairstow on Reaching 100 Test Matches
On March 7, 2023, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar took to social media platform X to congratulate Ravichandran Ashwin and England batter Jonny Bairstow on reaching the milestone of 100 test matches. Tendulkar praised their dedication to red-ball cricket, highlighting their passion and perseverance.
Ashwin was presented with a special memento in the form of a 100th Test cap by India coach Rahul Dravid in front of his family and teammates. The veteran spinner also received a guard of honor as he walked onto the field for the start of the 5th Test against England at Dharamsala.

Meanwhile, Bairstow was also playing his 100th Test in the fifth and final Test at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium. The England batter has amassed 5,974 runs in his 99 Test matches at an average of 36.42, with 12 hundreds and 26 fifties. His highest score of 167* came against Sri Lanka at Lord’s in 2016.
Other than Bairstow, several other England players have also reached 100 Tests, including James Anderson (186), Stuart Broad (167), Alastair Cook (161), Joe Root (139), Ian Bell (118), Ben Stokes (101), and Andrew Strauss (100).
Playing 100 Test matches in cricket is considered a significant achievement for a cricketer. It signifies a long and successful career in the sport, as Test cricket is known for its high standards and the challenges it presents to players.
The first cricketer to reach this milestone was Colin Cowdrey of England, who played his 100th Test in 1968 against Australia. Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for the most Test matches played, with a total of 200 matches under his belt.
