Ryan Garcia scored a fantastic stoppage win over Oscar Duarte in December and now he has set his sights on a potential bout with Rolando Romero. Garcia expressed his desire for the bout during an interview after the fight in the ring. However, when “Rolly” showed disinterest in facing Garcia, the 25-year-old turned his attention to newly crowned WBC title holder Devin Haney.
The discussions for a potential bout between Garcia and Haney are now in progress, with both boxers confirming their intention to face each other in the coming year. Haney gave an impressive performance on December 9 against Regis Prograis and won the WBC light welterweight title. This was his first fight in the lightweight division, which set the stage for a highly anticipated fight between two accomplished fighters in the near future.
Tweet battle between Garcia and Romero
Garcia stressed his commitment to arranging a bout with Devin Haney and criticized Romero for his lack of urgency and decisiveness in negotiating a potential bout.
Garcia tweeted, “I’m sorry Rollies, you and your team work very slow and you were very indecisive. I don’t know if you want to box or vacation. Devin Haney and I are in negotiations respect that. I’m not entertaining anything. Thanks”
To this, Haney replied, “See you soon, Pal.
During the same period Romero has hinted at a possible fight against Garcia in March, 2024. “Rolly” wrote that he has spent too much time away from boxing and now he wants to build the biggest PPV event of 2024. He wants to give the fans what they want and what they have been begging for years.
“Watch Ryan duck me after I’ve been partying for the last 7 months I don’t even need a training camp to spank that a**.” Romero tweeted
Haney and Garcia will face each other 7th time
According to a report, Garcia and Haney have fought six times as amateurs, where Haney won three times and Garcia drew three times. However, their BoxRec records tell that the two men have fought four times, with each of them having two wins over the other. Garcia shared a photo and wrote, “This will actually be the 7th fight between us. It’s only right it’s on the professional stage Thank you Lord Jesus. It’s time to RUMBLE.” The fight between these two will definitely be competitive.
