Two months ago, Boxing sensation Ryan Garcia secured a majority decision win over Devin Haney, but now his future in boxing hangs in the air. The New York Athletic Commission is scheduled to meet this week to determine whether Garcia will be able to keep his win and whether he will face a suspension due to testing positive for the banned substance ostarine.
Garcia is struggling with mental health
Ryan Garcia’s recent social media post portrays a troubled mind struggling with personal turmoil. His recent post on Instagram says, “Mom has cancer, I’m being sued, my supplements were adulterated going through a divorce, Devin asking for my victory to be taken away, I’m getting hit with everything.”
In some of the other posts, he expressed his disillusionment with boxing, stating that Boxing will be fine without him and claiming that he was the fun in the sport and it was fun to punch people. Despite his emotional turmoil, King Ry acknowledged his love for the sport, stating that he might retire and that he is done with the game. He even asked everyone to forget that he existed. He concluded his posts with a declaration that “I’m officially retired.”
Haney is seeking to overturn the decision
Devin Haney’s father and trainer Bill Haney responded skeptically, stating that Garcia’s retirement announcement was an attempt to avoid facing consequences for undisclosed reasons. Haney predicted Garcia’s suspension within 48 hours saying “In 48 hours your boy, Ryan Garcia will be suspended. The promoter, networks and everybody that’s trying to protect him, you are going to fall down.

Garcia tested positive for the performance-enhancing drug on both the day of the weigh-ins and the day of the fight. Since then, Devin has been saying to overturn Garcia’s win and seeking a disqualification to reinstate his undefeated record. However, no official ruling has been issued yet.
WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman is facing the daunting task of deciding whether Garcia should be suspended from WBC-sanctioned fights. Sulaiman has expressed his sympathy for Garcia and urged him to adopt a more consistent and conservative lifestyle.
