Roma vs Verona: Preview
Roma form analysis
La Lupac ome into the new year in disappointing form having struggled over the festive period. Their most recent result was a poor 3-1 away loss to reigning Serie A champions Milan. With a Leandro Paredes penalty providing scant consolation after going 3-0 down to an AC Milan side missing several key players. That defeat came on the back of an uninspiring 1-1 home draw with fellow top 4 contenders Atalanta. Needing an injury time Paulo Dybala penalty to salvage a point after responding poorly to an early Teun Koopmeiners opener.
Sandwiched in between was a lacklustre 1-0 away loss to title challengers Juventus courtesy of an Adrien Rabiot winner early in the second half. Roma’s best recent display arguably came in an excellent 2-0 home win over league leaders Napoli just before Christmas thanks to late goals from Lorenzo Pellegrini and Romelu Lukaku to stun the visitors. On the whole though, they will want far greater consistency in the second half of the campaign from their Giallorossi side.
Verona form analysis
Verona come into the new year with back-to-back wins. Slowly lifting them out of the Serie A relegation zone after a difficult first half of the campaign under the manager. Their most recent result was an excellent 2-1 home victory over Empoli courtesy of early striker from Milan Djuric. A clinical second half finish from Cyril Ngonge before clinging on despite Szymon Zurkowski pulling one back late on. That dramatic victory built on a hard fought 1-0 away win at struggling Salernitana two weeks prior thanks to a neat second half finish from forward Lilian Tchaouna for a vital three points.
However, Verona’s festive period ended with disappointment. Falling to a late 2-1 home loss to Champions League chasing Inter Milan despite Tomas Henry equalizing midway through the second half. Prior to that, Djuric was also on target in an efficient 2-0 home win over relegation threatened Cagliari to end their winless run. Building on these back-to-back victories now is essential if escapes from the drop zone is to be secured come May.
