Roma vs Empoli: Preview
Roma form analysis
AS Roma began this period by twice blowing the lead in an entertaining 2-2 home draw with Salernitana on the opening weekend. Belotti netted twice but two Candreva goals saw the points shared.
Their form then dipped as Roma suffered a 1-2 defeat away at Hellas Verona in their next match. Despite Aouar pulling one back, first half goals from Duda and Ngonge saw Roma beaten.
Most recently, Roma competed well in a tight 1-2 loss at home to Serie A champions AC Milan. They went behind early through a Giroud penalty before Leao made it two. Spinazzola’s late strike proved a consolation.
Overall, it’s been an underwhelming start to the season for Roma as they struggle to build on last season’s Europa Conference League success. Jose Mourinho’s side have lacked attacking fluency while also proving too easy to breach defensively. Finding both consistency and balance will be critical moving forward.
Empoli form analysis
Empoli’s season got off to a disappointing start as they lost 0-1 at home to Hellas Verona on the opening weekend after conceding to Bonazzoli’s second half strike. It was an underwhelming display.
Their form then dipped further as Empoli were beaten 0-2 away at newly-promoted Monza in their next match. They fell behind on the stroke of halftime and never recovered.
Most recently, Empoli produced an improved performance but still came unstuck in a 0-2 home loss to Juventus. They defended diligently before conceding twice late on.
Overall, it’s been a difficult start to the new Serie A season for Empoli as they struggle to fill the void left by departing players. Lacking attacking inspiration while also conceding softly has cost them so far. Finding more productivity in the final third is imperative after failing to score in their first 3 games.
