IND vs AUS: India’s batting succumbed to Aussies fiery bowling attack
Kohli & KL Rahul’s stunning fifties guided India to a total of 240 runs against Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023 final at Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. Australia held their nerves & displayed a tight bowling show to restrict Indians to a meager 240 runs total. Starc, Hazlewood & Cummins broke the backbone of the hosts’ batting lineup by scalping back-to-back wickets early in the innings.
KL Rahul amassed 66 runs off 107 balls while Kohli played a stunning knock of 54 runs to guide India to an average total. Earlier Rohit too played a gritty knock of 47 runs but all their efforts went in vain as Australia chased the target without shedding a sweat.
Batting first, Rohit got off to a blistering start smashing a four & a six in the first over. Starc then gave the Aussies their first breakthrough by removing Shubman in the fifth over for just four runs. Virat then tried to maintain the NRR by smashing Starc for a hat-trick of fours. But again Aussies bounced back by restricting India’s aggressive approach at the end of powerplay. Then India suffered another setback when Travid Haed took a stunning catch of Rohit’s mistimed ball towards the off-side.
Soon after the first Powerplay, Shreyas Iyer got dismissed by smashing a shot behind the wicket. Even when India tried to re-establish their innings they couldn’t as the Aussies didn’t let them score runs at a brisk rate.
India’s defensive approach cost them the Prestigious Title
KL Rahul & Kohli tried to remove India from a dire situation & managed to guide India to the mid-innings mark without any loss of wickets. It looked like things were sorted for India as Kohli tried to score their sixth consecutive fifty in the ongoing marquee event. Cummins struck with a short ball against the well-set batter Kohli. The end of Kohli’s tenure marked the downfall of India as after his dismissal none of their batters could actually amass runs. As a result, India’s innings were wrapped for a meager 240 runs.
The loss drove India back into the defensive mode. Rohit then made a tactical move by sending jadeja in front of Suryakumar to get the left-right combo going, KL Rahul too reached his fifty-run mark in the 35th over. As the ball started to reverse swing, Aussies pacers found greater help from the wicket. Hazlewood struck in the 37th over to get Jadeja behind the wicket. However, wickets continued to fall & India’s only hope Suryakumar was removed off Hazlewood’s delivery in the 47th over. There was no coming for India as their innings got over in 240 runs within 50 overs.
Head & Labuschagne guided the Aussies to an easy win in the IND vs AUS Final
In reply, Australia got off to a poor start as Warner, Marsh & Smith were dismissed early reducing India to 47-3 in 6.6 overs. But Travis Head played a stellar innings of 137 runs off 120 balls along with Labuschagne who provided a supporting hand with 58 runs off 110 balls. Their effort helped Australia to chase the target of 240 runs within 43 overs lifting their sixth consecutive title & scripting history. For India Bumrah starred with the ball by scalping one wicket for 43 runs. He got valuable support from Mohammed Shami & Siraj who returned with one scalp each.
