India Vows Redemption After Crushing Defeat in South Africa, Rohit Sharma Promises for Fight
India suffered a demoralizing innings and 32-run defeat to South Africa on Thursday, but captain Rohit Sharma insists his team will regroup and fight back fiercely in the final Test next week.
Speaking after India’s underwhelming performance, Rohit acknowledged their shortcomings. “Honestly, we weren’t good enough to win this match,” he admitted. He praised KL Rahul’s first-innings century but lamented the bowling and batting failures that sealed their fate.
“When you lose a game in three days, there’s not a lot of positives but like I mentioned, the way KL Rahul batted in the first innings showed a lot of us what you need to do on that kind of pitch,” Rohit said.
“A lot of our bowlers haven’t been here before, they’re still learning. So I don’t want to be too critical of them.”

Despite the crushing loss, Rohit identified a glimmer of hope in Virat Kohli’s valiant 76 in the second innings. “Kohli stood tall amidst the falling wickets, showing what determination can achieve,” he praised.
Skipper Rohit Sharma vows to fix errors before next test at Newlands
Looking ahead to the final Test at Newlands, where India has never tasted victory, Rohit emphasized the need for immediate improvement. “We will regroup, and we’ll fight back, It’s tough to take a loss like this,” he declared.
“But as sportsmen, we all go through these kinds of times, and you need to pick yourselves up, get ready for the next challenge, which is in front of you.”
Captain Rohit Sharma struggled against Kagiso Rabada in both innings, managing just 5 runs before being dismissed for a 7 ball duck in the second.
Aggressive tactics might have contributed to India’s loss, as Test cricket, especially in South African conditions with unpredictable bounce and seam movement, often rewards patience and adaptation over brute force.
South Africa comfortably chased down 212 in the fourth innings to win at Newlands in 2022, highlighting the challenge India faces. However, the Newlands pitch also offers some spin assistance, providing India with greater flexibility in their bowling attack compared to Centurion.
With the series on the line, the pressure will be immense on India. Can they overcome their Centurion blues and rewrite history at Newlands? The second Test promises to be a thrilling nail-biter, with both teams desperate to salvage pride and claim victory.
